If you notice receding or tender gums, persistent bad breath, loose teeth, or regular bleeding when you brush or floss, you may be suffering from periodontal disease. However, periodontal disease is often subtle, so you may not notice it until your case has grown serious. This is why regular dental appointments are key to early detection and treatment of periodontal disease. We’re trained to look for the more subtle signs of the disease and can often diagnose it early enough to provide effective treatment.

Our Process
The Dental Studio of Wellesley uses a process called tooth scaling and root planing to combat periodontal disease. This treatment removes tartar that has built up around your gum line and even against your teeth’s roots.
We’ll begin by scaling your teeth. This is essentially a deep cleaning of the visible parts of your teeth that will eliminate plaque and tartar gathered around them.
Root planing, on the other hand, removes tartar from the roots of your teeth, below your gum line. This usually takes multiple sessions to complete treatment.
At your initial consultation, we’ll examine your teeth and lay out a treatment plan so you know what to expect from your periodontal treatment.

If we expect there to be any pain for your periodontal treatment in Wellesley, we’ll use a numbing agent, so you shouldn’t expect to feel anything during your session. You may feel some discomfort as this wears off over the next few hours, but most patients don’t report any notable pain from their treatment.
Healthy oral habits are a great way to minimize the impact of periodontal disease after a professional treatment. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once a day, making sure to target plaque buildup around the gum line. You should also keep a regular dental care schedule with routine checkups. We may advise you to visit us again for follow-up periodontal treatments, depending on the severity of your condition.
