Composite fillings may take some time to place, as we need to clean out the treatment area and prepare it to bond to the composite fillings. The location, size, and number of fillings needed will all affect your appointment length as well. Composite filling appointments typically take around an hour, but some situations may require more or less time. We’ll give you our best informed estimate of how long treatment will take before your appointment.

Our Process
Composite fillings are a mixture of plastic resin and powdered glass filler. They are versatile and can be used to repair cracked and decayed teeth.
The filling material is cured with a high powered light into a solid surface very similar to your natural tooth.
Composite fillings are very reliable and have vastly improved the health outcome of patients who need restorations. They are so smooth and strong that you may even forget it’s there! Over the years, your filling may begin to degrade with use, but The Dental Studio of Wellesley is highly trained in replacing fillings that are not working in they way they need to for your health.
To apply a composite filling, we’ll begin by removing the tooth decay to prepare the area for a filling. Once the area has been prepared we’ll apply layers of composite material until the tooth surface is fully protected. We’ll cure the composite material with high powered light, then polish the filling so that your tooth is back to healthy use and the filling blends seamlessly with your natural tooth.

With our Treatment Planning Tool, you can select your exact areas of concern and get personalized treatment recommendations.
During a composite filling, we use a local anesthesia around the treatment area before we begin the procedure, so you shouldn’t feel any pain during your filling appointment! You may have some minor discomfort after your treatment, but fillings aren’t considered to be a painful procedure.
After receiving your fillings, it may take several hours for the anesthesia to fully wear off. Your tooth may be sensitive for a few days after your appointment as well.
Your filling will be fully cured during the procedure, so you can eat or drink right after your visit. There is occasionally some sensitivity afterwards, but that should fade with a little time.
